Dear Chicago-Area Friends,
When I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in 2003, I found it virtually impossible to connect with others in my situation. My doctor at that time said he couldn’t introduce to me to any Stage IV breast cancer patients. I found out later that he had only two patients who were metastatic and I was one of them!
Social media didn’t exist back then and the Internet was still fairly new. How times have changed! In 2006, my heart leaped with joy when I met scores of patients at a conference sponsored by the Metastatic Breast Cancer Network (MBCN).
In recent years, I’ve participated in annual Indiana, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Houston, New York and Seattle MBC events—how exciting this year to meet my fellow Chicago-area patients and their supporters. Thank you, Susan G. Komen Chicago, for inviting MBCN to help plan this event. We have been pleased to work with Komen Executive Director Bonnie Gordon and her team as well as Volunteer Coordinator Robin Page, the MBC patient who got the ball rolling.
I look forward to sharing my story and hearing yours, too!
